Participating in T20 World Cup is ‘a dream’ for UAE

[ad_1]

Chirag Suri says UAE cricketers will live out their dreams when they are in the national team First World Cup in seven years.

This team will return to the top stage when they face the Netherlands at Cardinia Park in Geelong on Sunday.

In a 15-person tour group in Australia, Only Ahmed Raza has experience Participated in the 2014 World T20 global events.

“The players are excited to be in Australia because it’s a dream for all players,” said UAE opener Suri.

“We came close and missed a couple of times. We are now going to Australia for the World Cup in 2022 and we are very excited.

“There are nerves of course. It’s a big game with a lot of people involved and we don’t get opportunities like this all the time. It’s a good platform for us and we’re looking forward to it.”

The UAE will need to play preliminary matches against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Namibia if they are to progress to the main stage of the tournament.

Whether they progress or not, at least CP Ridvan It can already be said that he has shared the top stage with the greats in the game.

The new captain was in Melbourne for a group photo with the captain on Saturday. Sharing the podium with the likes of Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler must have been surreal.

“It’s always an honour to lead your country, and it’s even more special to lead at the World Cup,” Ridzwan said.

“I am grateful to the Almighty. I have always dreamed of playing in the World Cup, so it is special to have the opportunity to represent your country.

“But having said that, we’re not here just to play in the World Cup. We’re here to make an impact and express ourselves and showcase our skills on the bigger platform Inshallah.”

Rizwan had just arrived in the country from his home state of Kerala when the United Arab Emirates participated in the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2014.

By contrast, Suri has represented cricket through age groups and played a role in a successful qualifier for the 2015 Over-50 World Cup.

He missed the final cut of that game and said the opportunity was long overdue.

“In seven years, a lot has happened,” Suri said.

“Something has changed and finally we have a chance to be here. These guys have been working hard over the past few years.

“It’s not just that we just got here. We worked hard and had a good performance and we deserve to be here.”

Whether the experience so far is exactly what the players envisioned when they won qualifying in Muscat in February is questionable.

Presumably, they dream of playing in the sweltering heat of Australia in national team grey.

However, Australia has adapted to some circumstances. In their training match against the club’s opposition early on this tour, with some players on the pitch in hoodies, the temperature was so fresh.

Central Victoria has also been hit by flooding in recent days. The Barwon River meanders just a few hundred meters from the Kardinia Stadium, where the game is held, 4.5 meters above normal water levels.

Then with kitSuri said that the UAE will be using cherry red and violet instead of the traditional grey, much to the delight of the players.

“I think it’s a nice change, and I really like it,” Suri said.

“We got colorful for the first time. The guys loved it. It got a good response from everyone.

“New kit, new team, we’re looking for new performances.”
