The team behind Peaky Blinders condemns a ‘homophobic’ video Ron DeSantis last week’s presidential campaign. The video highlights previous statements by former President Donald Trump in support of gay rights. On Friday, June 30, the Florida gubernatorial campaign posted a video on Twitter saying it marked the end of a month of LGBTQ+ pride celebrations.
“To wrap up Pride month, let’s hear from the politician who has done more to celebrate Pride month than any other Republican,” the campaign said. Considering Donald’s 2016 pledge to “do my best can protect our LGBTQ citizens” and Ron’s conservative approach to LGBTQ+ rights. The video features a montage of muscular men and shows what appears to be lightning bolts flying through the air. Ron’s eyes. Activists have lamented his efforts to limit transgender rights.
The video notably includes footage of Donald appearing to embrace the LGBT+ community after the horrific 2016 mass shooting at gay nightclub Pulse. Another part of the video features Ron and his comments and policies regarding cross-dressing and transgender rights. Ron is portrayed as very masculine, and his photos are collaged with various shirtless, muscular men, as well as images of several Hollywood and British actors, including Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and the Cillian Murphy, starring in Bathers.
Now, a joint statement from Cillian and the Peaky Blinders team has been shared on social media. “On behalf of our partners on Peaky Blinders – Steven Knight, Cillian Murphy, Caryn Mandabach Productions, Tiger Aspect Productions and Banijay Rights – we can confirm that footage of the Tommy Shelby character used in the video released for Ron DeSantis’ promotional obtained with permission, or an official licence. We do not support or endorse the narration of this video and strongly discourage the use of content in this manner,” the statement read.
Ron announced in May 2023 that he planned to run in the Republican presidential primary. “I’m running for president of the United States to lead our great American renaissance,” he said at an event with Elon Musk and David Sachs, according to CNN. “But we Knowing that our country is going in the wrong direction. We’ve seen it with our own eyes. We feel it in our bones.”
“My promise to you is this: If you nominate me, you can turn your clocks forward to noon on January 20, 2025, as I will be sworn in on the west side of the United States Capitol as the 47th President of the United States of America, “He said. “No excuses, I’ll get the job done.”
