Perseids Meteor Shower UAE to Peak Over Tonight
Skywatchers across the UAE have a chance to see one of the year’s most popular meteor showers this week as the Perseids meteor shower UAE reaches its peak.
The Perseids are active from July 17 to August 24, but the strongest activity is expected around August 12 and 13. The International Meteor Organization lists the main maximum in the early hours of August 13, while activity can remain strong around the peak.
The shower happens as Earth moves through dust and debris left behind by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. When these tiny particles enter Earth’s atmosphere at high speed, they burn up and create bright streaks across the night sky.
Best Time to Watch
For people in the UAE, the best chance comes after midnight and toward the early morning hours, when the Perseid radiant climbs higher in the sky.
This year’s conditions are especially promising because the peak comes close to the new moon on August 12. With little moonlight, fainter meteors should be easier to spot.
Where to Watch in the UAE?
For the best view, move away from bright city lights. Desert areas around Al Quaa, Al Khatim and Mleiha are popular choices among local stargazers. Recent UAE discussions have also highlighted Mleiha and Al Quaa as preferred locations for watching the shower.
You do not need a telescope to watch the Perseids. Find a dark, open location, give your eyes time to adjust and look across a wide section of the sky.
