“Then he said to me, ‘Don’t be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day you resolved to understand and humble yourself before your God, your words have been heard; I have come because of your words. But Persia The princes of the kingdom resisted me for twenty-one days. Behold, one of the chief princes, Michael, came to my aid, for I was left alone with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to make you understand What will happen to the people in the last days, for the vision refers to many days,” (Dan. 10.12-14 NKJV).
The story of Daniel’s intercession in chapter 10 is another example of perseverance in prayer. Until we read Daniel 10:12-14 quoted above, Daniel’s life has been one of unrelenting faith, pure commitment to God, and consistent prayer. Despite his prayer records, the prince of the kingdom of Persia resisted him for 21 days until the angel Michael came to his aid. If Satan could resist Daniel, then any of us could be resisted by the devil.
Daniel’s constant prayer shouldn’t surprise anyone. His background as a Jewish captive in the royal palace of Babylon left him with no better option but to learn to survive through prayer and make a place for himself and his fellow Jews. As a dream interpreter, he must have spent a lot of time seeking divine revelation, wisdom, and techniques to understand and interpret dreams.
In chapter two, we discover that Daniel sought the God of heaven for the secret of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. In Chapter 6, when the Governor and the Governor conspire against him, and they want to destroy him by all means, we find him praying fearlessly, as he has done before.
“Daniel heard about the law, but when he got home, he went upstairs and prayed at the window facing Jerusalem. As usual, three times a day he knelt down and prayed, giving thanks to God. Those who spoke to the king watched Daniel, saw him praying to his God for help,” (Dan. 6.10-11 NKJV).
The statement: “As usual, he knelt down and prayed three times a day, thanking God,” which speaks volumes about his devotion to prayer and his way of life. The prayer “Three times a day, thank God” speaks volumes about his commitment. Persistent prayer must conform to certain prayer procedures and patterns. For Daniel, there were three routine prayers each morning, noon, and evening. In the morning, before he goes out to deal with the king’s business; at noon, when he comes home to eat; and in the evening, when all his work is done, he goes to bed.
In chapter nine, Daniel prays and repents for the transgressions of the Jewish remnant and the desolate city of Jerusalem. God responded by sending angels to reveal to him that the seventy weeks were God’s calendar for the nations (Daniel 9:1-25).
So Satan opposed Daniel in order to prevent him from accepting his prayers, but God proved his superiority over Satan by sending the angel Michael to help Daniel overcome him. In conclusion, we must realize that even in prayer, God is always our helper.
