Amazing Photos of Earth by Japanese Astronaut Koichi Wakata
The idea of observing the Earth from space has intrigued ordinary people. Koichi Wakata, a flight engineer at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), has fulfilled humanity’s longing for this observation with pictures taken from the International Space Station.
The International Space Station (ISS) orbits Earth at an altitude of approximately 254 miles (409 kilometers), providing a unique vantage point for photographing our planet. NASA recently posted images of some of these viewpoints on Instagram.

2: Lisbon, Portugal takes center stage in this photo taken on February 4, 2023. The Tagus River divides this sprawling city covered in red clay tiled roofs that fade into green areas closer inland.

3. CAIRO, EGYPT, FEBRUARY 4, 2023. The city sits on a sand-colored ground with details of street access. Can you recognize the pyramids? (Hint: Near the far left of the image where the urban development intersects the desert landscape, they appear as three partially shaded squares.)
This isn’t the first time Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata has shared something interesting like this. A few days ago, he also captured images of Abu Dhabi through the camera.
“Hello, Abu Dhabi! Enjoy the night view of the city from the International Space Station!”
