Jenks, Oklahoma (KTUL) — In the sports world, it’s the hottest thing since sliced bread, making sliced pickles. It’s a sport with a name that sounds like it’s fermented in jars at the deli counter, pickle ball.
“Somewhere between table tennis and tennis,” says Dr. Angelo Cuzalina.
Cuzalina was so drawn to it that he and his partners aptly named the company In a Pickle and invested over $14 million to create the Pickleball Entertainment Center.
“It also has an outdoor stage for outdoor entertainment, fire pits, two restaurants, one of which is In the Raw, the other is called In the Kitchen, which is a sports bar, and then we have a medical spa, and I started, Another company called Bahamas Bucks, Snow Cone, and then Outdoor Bar,” Cuzalina said.
“We’re excited about all the developments,” said Heather Turner, president of the Jenks Chamber of Commerce.
Turner is delighted that this new development continues the momentum of this large project, just a stone’s throw from the hotel.
“Simon Mall is next door to it, and the river is behind it, and I think it will appeal not only to Jenks locals, but also to people from other areas,” she said.
“I’ve never heard of it before,” said Jenks City Councilman Craig Murray.
Murray may be new to pickleball, but the economic juggernaut of Jenks is very familiar to him.
“The phone keeps ringing on the walls of City Hall. People want to build here, they want to grow here, and it has so much to offer our community,” he said.
As for when you can hit the river for a game?
“We hope to have it done by the end of next year,” Cuzalina said.
