Piney Woods Jamboree brings Branson-style entertainment to Webster Parish

[ad_1]

Mark Eubanks of Piney Woods Jamboree is passionate about music and producing great shows for his audience. “I’ve played for 53 years — 43 of them professionally,” Eubanks said. “My mom said I started at two years old, beating a pencil on a Folgers coffee can. I never got tired of the music.”

Piney Woods Jamboree Band is full of talented musicians. “The band is all studio and road musicians,” Eubanks said. “Each of them plays three to five instruments. They can swap if they want.”

Piney Woods Jamboree featuring Brett Traylor of Houghton, LA on piano; Gene Simmons of Dierks, Arkansas, on steel; Tommy Amason of Fordyce, Arkansas, bass; Ronnie Hearnsberger of Spring Hill, LA , keyboards; Zane Glasscock of Magnolia, Arkansas on lead guitar; David Mann of Warren, Arkansas on lead guitar; Mike White of Shongaloo, LA on guitar and violin and Mark Eubanks of Springhill, LA on drums . Together with their support staff, they created a pathway to bring a Branson-inspired show to Spring Hill, Louisiana on the second Saturday of every month (except May).

The band puts a lot of work into putting together a new show, with a different headline performer each month. Eubanks described his process, saying:

“I put the music together, reach out to everyone who’s going to sing, and say, ‘Give me four songs, the artist and the version you’re doing, and the key you want to sing.’ I do that for everyone, and then Send it to all my musicians.”

The musicians then have about two to three weeks to look at and work on it.

“In the meantime, I’m putting together the show — how it’s going to go, who’s going to do it in what order. I have a comedian who comes out of Hot Springs every month — Mickey ‘Shinbone’ Shinn from Malvern, Arkansas — He used to be in Branson. When it’s all put together, I’ll send them a set list so they can review and familiarize themselves with the flow of the show. They come and set it up at noon the day of the show, from 1 At 5 o’clock, we put 24 to 27 songs together and put the show together. Then at seven o’clock, we start the show. They’re just that good.

“Brady Rhodes from Kyle, Arkansas will be with us next weekend, he just got back from Radio City Music Hall with Barry Manilow. Josie Haggis from Warren, Arkansas will be with us: It’s like She’s with us for the second time, and people love her. She has a song she wrote that has over 2.3 million hits on Spotify. She’s super awesome,” Eubanks said.

To keep things fresh, Eubanks likes to think about monthly themes.

“I tend to try themed shows. For the February show, we want to have a country love song as the theme because that’s going to be Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t have to be a love song in itself, maybe something like Rascal Flatts’ song ‘When You’re Backwards’ What happens when you play a country song”—you get your wife back, you get your dog back, you get your trailer back—it’s funny. Or it could be like Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind” . The April show could be Easter-themed — with more focus on country gospel,” he said.

Piney Woods Jamboree is held at the Frank Anthony Community Center (FACA) in Springhill. Each performance will begin with prayers and a rendition of the national anthem, something Eubanks feels strongly about.

Another thing Eubanks strives for is making the audience feel comfortable. While FACAs have a seating capacity of around 900, they typically only hold 600-700 people in order to allow enough space between rows of seats. Great deals and reasonable prices. There’s even a 31-unit RV park next to the FACA for those who want to live nearby. Admission is $10.Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm
