Police are investigating online threats against JK Rowling.

‘Harry Potter’ author tweeted best wishes to Sir Salman Rushdie shortly after he was attacked on stage in New York State – but her message was on the Weibo platform Provoked a threatening response from one user.

She wrote: “Is there any chance of Twitter support getting some support?

Rowling also questioned whether Twitter was strict enough in enforcing its guidelines.

Now, a police spokesman has confirmed that an “investigation” is underway after the incident came to their attention.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We have received a report of an online threat and police are investigating.”

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), the entertainment company behind the Harry Potter franchise, condemned the threat.

“We stand with her and all the authors, storytellers and creators who have bravely expressed their creativity and perspectives,” the company said in a statement. “WBD believes in free speech, peaceful discourse and supports those in the public sphere. person who expresses an opinion.

“Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family following the senseless acts of violence in New York. The company strongly condemns threats, violence or intimidation of any kind when opinions, beliefs and ideas may differ. “
