Pophouse Entertainment is a Swedish entertainment company owned by Previous Universal Music Per Sundin, managing director of Sweden, has acquired a 75% interest in the Avicii Masters and Publishing Directory.
The deal follows the launch in February of the Avicii Experience interactive tribute museum in Stockholm, a collaboration between Avicii’s family and estate (Tim Bergling) and Pophouse CEO Sundin, who opened in 2010.
Pophouse is working with Tim Bergling Foundation Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed on Wednesday (September 28).
The Bergling family will continue to be closely involved in Avicii’s music as minority owners of a 25% stake.
They will also form a joint venture with Pophouse to further develop and preserve Avicii’s heritage through future global efforts such as the Interactive Tribute Museum in Stockholm.
The deal comes six months after Pophouse get Electronic music stars Swedish Mafia’s master recording and publishing catalog, including shares of their writers.
This marks the company’s first foray into copyright acquisitions.
With the sale, Tim Bergling’s parents, Klas Bergling and Anki Lidén, will be able to take a step back from the many tasks required to run the Avicii estate, allowing them to focus more on the Tim Bergling Foundation, Pophouse said.
The foundation was established a year after the artist passed away in April 2018.
“My wife and I feel that as we age, we don’t have the energy levels or the skills needed to be fully ahead of new streaming and digital developments, which is critical for a large international artist like Tim Important,” Avicii’s parents said in a statement.
The Avicii brand is owned by a company called Avicii AB, which is wholly owned by the Foundation. Through a 50/50 joint venture with Pophouse, the Avicii brand will be managed by both parties.

They added that the deal would secure the foundation’s long-term financial health and create opportunities to support key issues such as young people’s mental health and well-being. The foundation supports helplines, establishes music studios in exposed areas, and offers music therapy, concerts, and other open events to combat the stigma associated with mental health issues and suicide.
“Working with the Tim Bergling Foundation has been a full-time commitment for us. The foundation has only been running for a few years and there is a lot of work to be done for a long time to come,” added Avicii’s parents.

The partnership will also ensure Avicii’s fan base is taken care of, they said.
Avicii rose to fame in 2011 with his Grammy-nominated single Level, About a year later, he was named the number one DJ in the world by DJ Magazine.He then released his debut studio album real Top 10 in over 15 countries in 2012, driven by the album’s lead single wake me up.
