With its advanced hardware and iPadOS 16, iPad Pro has an incredibly robust ecosystem of professional apps unlike any other device of its kind. The new iPad Pro is available to order today and in stores starting Wednesday, October 26.
“The next-generation iPad Pro pushes the boundaries of what’s possible with the iPad, bringing more versatility, power, and portability to the ultimate iPad experience,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing. “Supported by the M2 chip Next, the new iPad Pro features incredible performance and state-of-the-art technology, including a next-generation Apple Pencil hover experience, ProRes video capture, ultra-fast wireless connectivity and the power of iPadOS 16. Breakthrough performance of the M2 chip
The M2 is the beginning of Apple’s next-generation M-series chips, which bring more breakthrough performance and features to the iPad Pro with industry-leading power efficiency, unified memory architecture and custom technology.
The M2 features an 8-core CPU (15% faster than the M1) with advances in both performance and efficiency cores, and a 10-core GPU that provides up to 35% more graphics performance for the most demanding users. Combining the CPU and GPU, the 16-core Neural Engine can process 15.8 trillion operations per second, 40 percent more than the M1, making the iPad Pro even more powerful for machine learning tasks. The M2 chip also features 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth—50% more than the M1—and supports up to 16GB of fast unified memory, making multitasking and handling large assets smoother.

Next-level Apple Pencil hover experience
Powered by the new iPad Pro and iPadOS 16, the Apple Pencil (2nd generation) hover feature provides users with a whole new dimension of interacting with the screen. Apple Pencil is now detectable 12mm above the display, allowing users to preview their marks before making them. It also allows users to sketch and illustrate with greater precision, and makes everything users do with the Apple Pencil much easier. For example, with Scribble, text fields automatically expand when the pencil is brought closer to the screen, and handwriting can be converted to text faster. Third-party apps can also take advantage of this new feature for a whole new marking and drawing experience.
Ultra-fast wireless connection
The new iPad Pro supports the fastest Wi-Fi connection and supports Wi-Fi 6E,3, so users who need a fast connection can carry out demanding workflows on the go. Download speeds up to 2.4Gb/s, 2x faster than the previous generation. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave4) now support more 5G networks around the world, so users can access their files, communicate with colleagues and quickly back up their data on the go. 5
Unparalleled Pro Features Supported by iPadOS 16
In addition to major updates to Messages, new tools in Mail and Safari, a new Weather app, and more ways to interact with photos and videos through real-time text and visual lookups, iPadOS 16 introduces powerful productivity features , which enhances the iPad Pro experience:
Stage Manager is a new multitasking experience that automatically organizes apps and windows, making it quick and easy to switch between tasks. Later this year, Stage Manager will unlock full external display support up to 6K resolution, so users will be able to arrange the ideal workspace and use up to four apps on iPad and up to four on external displays application.
Desktop-level apps enable new features optimized for the iPad Pro display—making apps more capable with new elements and interactions, including consistent undo and redo, a redesigned inline find and replace experience, a new document menu, Customizable toolbar, and the ability to change file extensions, view folder sizes within files, and more.
Reference Mode enables the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display to meet color requirements in workflows such as review and approval, color grading, and compositing, where accurate color and consistent image quality are critical. This means professional users, including photographers and videographers, can edit HDR images and videos with every detail in their hands, while cinematographers in the field can preview content in a color profile that represents the final capture.
iPad and the environment
The new iPad models are designed to minimize environmental impact and include 100% recycled gold (an iPad first) in the electroplating of multiple printed circuit boards, as well as recycled aluminum, tin and rare earth elements. All iPad models meet Apple’s energy efficiency standards and are free of mercury, brominated flame retardants, PVC, and beryllium. The redesigned packaging in the new iPad Pro does away with the outer plastic wrap, and 99 percent of the packaging is fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from all packaging by 2025.
Today, Apple is carbon neutral in its global corporate operations and plans to achieve 100% carbon neutrality across its manufacturing supply chain and all product lifecycles by 2030. This means that every Apple device sold, from component manufacturing, assembly, shipping, customer use, charging, all the way to recycling and material recycling, will have a net-zero impact on the climate.
