NEW YORK (AP) — Prince Harry “idle” After just one week of publication, it has sold more than 3.2 million copies worldwide, making it likely to rank among the best-selling memoirs of all time.
Prince Harry’s headline-grabbing memoir has sold 1.6 million copies in the US alone, Penguin Random House announced Thursday. That figure matches the first-week sales of blockbusters like former President Barack Obama’s “Promised Land” and former first lady Michelle Obama’s “Becoming,” which have sold more than 17 million copies since its 2018 release.
The UK publisher announced a “standby” last week 400,000 copies sold in the UK In all formats – hardcover, ebook and audio – on day one.
Total sales announced for “Spare” are in print, audio and digital in the major English-speaking markets: US, UK, Canada and Australia. The book has been published in 15 other languages, and 10 more are expected.
“Standby” may set a record for nonfiction, but no book in memory can match the pace of Harry Potter’s final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, released in 2007. More than 10 million copies were sold in the first 24 hours.
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, has co-authored his books with American novelist JR Moehringer, who also helped write Andre Agassi’s critically acclaimed Open and author of The Tender Bar (The Tender Bar), the memoir George Clooney made into the film starring Ben Affleck.
