PureHealth Laboratories Receives World Health Organization’s Highest Accreditation

Purelab’s Regional Reference Laboratory for Infectious Diseases (RLID-AD), a subsidiary of PureHealth, the region’s largest integrated healthcare platform, has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) for its contribution to strengthening laboratory capacity in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The RLID-AD (also known as the Surveillance Laboratory) recently won top honors at the 3rd Scientific Session of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance (EMARIS) Network in Muscat.

According to Purehealth, the lab has played a key role in the region’s ability to detect and trace infectious diseases, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PureHealth operates more than 25 hospitals, more than 100 clinics, more than 160 laboratories, multiple diagnostic centers, insurance solutions, pharmacy, health technology, procurement, investment and related businesses in the UAE.

RLID-AD gained international reputation for its support in sequencing the SARS-CoV-2 strain during the pandemic. The laboratory provides sequencing capacity to different countries with limited laboratory resources and expertise, enabling the detection and monitoring of strains prevalent in these countries.

This latest recognition is in line with Abu Dhabi’s efforts throughout the pandemic, as it was named the most resilient in the world by Deep Knowledge Analytics (DKA), the London-based DeepTech analytics subsidiary of Deep Knowledge Group (DKG). The recognition reflects the emirate’s comprehensive, efficient and timely response to the COVID-19 pandemic, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s healthcare sector as a leading example regionally and internationally.

Dr Farida Al Hosani, Executive Director, Communicable Diseases Unit, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, said: “This recognition is an important sign of our commitment to the people of Abu Dhabi to provide them with world-class hygiene practices. The results of the collaboration between AD to expand testing capabilities that have proven their value during the pandemic.”
