LONDON: A new photo exhibition showcasing the relationship between Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved corgis celebrated her relationship with dogs, opening in London on Wednesday.
Titled ‘The Queen and Her Corgis’, the exhibition features photographs of the monarch during her lifetime, showing her unique relationship with her Pembroke Welsh corgi.
Exhibition curator Xavier Bray told AFP: “We have this very small but very beautiful exhibition of nine photographs of the Queen and her corgis, documented every 10 years her life.”
He said the photographs capture her youth in official duties as a monarch.
“You’ll also see her relaxing with the corgis at Balmoral and even taking them for a walk in Windsor,” he added, referring to the royal estates in Scotland and west London respectively.
The photos were selected from more than 5,000 images, ranging from informal snapshots to formal portraits – each documenting a moment in the Queen’s 96 years of life and her relationship with the breed.
The earliest image in the series dates from July 1936, and shows young Princess Elizabeth playing with a pair of corgis named Jane and Dookie in the garden of the home where she grew up in London.
Another photo is of her with Susan, a corgi, descended from many of the dogs she later bred during her reign. (AFP)
