Range Rover models receive five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

[ad_1]

Both the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have achieved the maximum five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety test. The luxury SUV draws on more than 50 years of expertise to deliver exceptional all-terrain capability, refinement and safety.

The new model is the latest in the Range Rover range, dating back to 2011’s Evoque, under strict Euro NCAP star-rated safety protocols introduced in 2009.

Both models are based on a new mixed-metal, flexible modular longitudinal architecture, which provides a solid foundation for a suite of state-of-the-art driver assistance technologies to work in harmony for responsive and refined driving. Available in four-, five- and seven-seat configurations, the new Range Rover is 50 percent stiffer than its predecessor, while the Range Rover Sport is 35 percent stiffer than before.

The new award-winning Range Rover scored 87 per cent for child occupant protection and 72 per cent for vulnerable road users, while the Range Rover Sport scored 85 per cent for adult occupant protection. Both SUVs received 82 percent safety assistance.

hard work and expertise

Thomas Mueller, executive director of product engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “These outstanding Euro NCAP results are a direct result of the hard work and expertise that goes into designing, engineering and building vehicles that combine safety, performance and luxury over five Ten years. Our strong hybrid MLA-Flex body architecture provides the solid foundation for a suite of cutting-edge active safety systems such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), which combine to work in harmony to protect occupants and other Road users. These Range Rovers are a technological triumph.”

The new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport share a range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to support the driver and protect occupants, including:

• Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) Using forward-facing radar and cameras, AEB helps identify vehicles ahead, pedestrians and cyclists, or oncoming vehicles from adjacent lanes when the host vehicle is turning left or right or cyclists. AEB will identify imminent risks and apply the brakes to minimize severity or avoid impact.

Lane Keeping Assist

• Lane Keeping Assist monitors road lane markings to detect unintentional lane departures. If the vehicle is about to cross a lane boundary, a rotational force is applied to the steering wheel to counteract the movement across the boundary.

• Emergency Lane Keeping Assist helps provide corrective steering input when it determines that the vehicle is getting too close to the edge of the road and is drifting into an adjacent lane where oncoming traffic is detected.

• 3D Surround Camera and ClearSight Ground View – The surround camera system provides a 3D 360-degree view around the vehicle and can display multiple views simultaneously on a touchscreen display while driving – giving drivers detailed information about their surroundings. ClearSight Ground View enables the driver to see hidden areas directly in front of and under the hood on the center touchscreen display.

Driver Status Response

• If the driver fails to respond to a series of audiovisual cues, the driver status response stops the vehicle and activates the hazard warning lights.

• Rear Collision Monitor with Occupant Protection Assist uses front and rear corner radars to detect collision risks within 70 meters and warns occupants, sounds an audible warning and prepares the cab for potential impacts. The hazard warning lights will flash if required and the interior is prepared by tightening the seat belts, moving the head restraints forward, reclining the seats and closing the windows and panoramic sunroof.

• When the forward collision warning system detects a risk of collision, the pre-emptive suspension automatically switches to dynamic mode, assisting the driver by providing the most agile response if evasive maneuvers are required.

Adaptive Cruise Control

• Adaptive Cruise Control and Steering Assist: Adaptive cruise control maintains the vehicle at a set cruising speed. If a slow-moving vehicle is detected in the lane ahead, the vehicle speed is automatically reduced. Steering Assist helps the driver keep the vehicle centered in the lane by making small adjustments to the steering.

• Park Assist detects available parking spaces and maneuvers the vehicle into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces. Park Assist uses steering, acceleration, gear selection and braking to control the vehicle during maneuvers.

driver alertness

In addition to active safety systems, the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport also utilize technology designed to increase driver alertness and reduce the possibility of distraction. Integrated Amazon Alexa provides the ability to control various settings and functions using natural and intuitive voice commands without taking your hands off the steering wheel or your eyes off the road.

Alexa is embedded in the Pivi Pro and can be activated by simply saying “Alexa” or tapping the Alexa button on the touchscreen. The clever voice AI even integrates with Alexa devices in the home and works without a smartphone—all owners need to do is log into the vehicle’s built-in eSIM with their Amazon account to provide connectivity.

Both cars also feature Cabin Air Purification Pro, a groundbreaking system that takes cabin air quality to a new level. PM2.5 filtration and Nanoe-X technology not only help significantly reduce odors, bacteria and allergens, but also enhance health and alertness by monitoring indoor CO2 levels and automatically introducing fresh outside air when needed. High levels of CO2 can cause drowsiness, so the system actively helps the driver maintain optimal alertness.
