Reality show entertainment venue planned for old Sears store in St. Paul

[ad_1]

Brix Entertainment founder Rickey Johnson hopes to attract chefs and musicians from across the country to the competition.

St. Paul, Minn. — After the closing of the old Sears store near Rice Steet in January 2019, what was once a shopping destination for the Eastern Subway is now boarded up and vacant in St. Paul.

“Right now, we just want to protect the location,” said Brix Entertainment founder Rickey Johnson.

But that could all change if Johnson manages the future of the property his own way.

“It’s a whole new business concept that no one has ever done before,” Johnson explained.

He’s proposing a reality show entertainment that he’s been dreaming of for the past 10 years.

“We’re going to have two live shows…a culinary arts show and a music show,” Johnson said.

He hopes it will attract chefs and musicians from across the country to the Twin Cities for competitions, as well as an entertainment destination.

“You can test the food, and we can find a way where we can replicate the food that’s being judged by the culinary arts judges while serving it, and in terms of music you’ll be able to vote,” Johnson explained.

He continued, “Some of our winners, we want to have contracts with American Idol, America’s Got Talent, The Voice, some cooking competitions, and our winners will compete again from this show to those shows.”

Currently, Johnson is working with private investors such as the Metropolitan Economic Development Association (Mida) and architects.

“I’m working with architect Peter Wallard who is designing an exterior diagram that will fit the stage area as we will have a live music stage outside in the summer.”

Johnson said he was also working with Seritage Growth Characteristicswho currently owns the 17.5 acres of land, but to what extent is not known.

“At this point, I really can’t talk about it because I have a nondisclosure agreement with Seritage covering it,” he said.

“One of the biggest things I want to do in the Twin Cities area, especially in São Paulo, is to start seeing businesses come back, restaurants of all kinds of different cultures, music, more musical events.”

Johnson said he would like to see that dream come true within the next two to three years.
