RECAPP launches new incentive recovery deposit system in UAE

[ad_1]

Veolia’s digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses, RECAPP, has launched a new recycling deposit scheme and rewards program for implementing Reverse Vending Machines (RVM). This was done in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) and the Smart Deposit Machine (RSDM) to increase recycling rates and promote a circular economy in the UAE.

The new digital solution is a complementary service to RECAPP’s existing free app-based door-to-door collection service, where RVM will be used to collect bottles and RSDM will be used to collect recyclable bags, in line with Veolia’s strategic vision to benefit humanity and the holistic digital recycling solution for the planet.

In Abu Dhabi, RECAPP, in partnership with Masdar City, will implement the first deposit-back system with Rewards Scheme (DRS) in the UAE. These Smart Deposit Machines (RSDMs) will enable RECAPP to collect an additional 20 million bottles and reinforce the UAE Government’s target to recycle 50% of single-use plastic bottles.

Meanwhile in Dubai, RECAPP also officially launched its first RVM connected app with a lot of rewards. The unveiling ceremony will take place at SALT Restaurant in Kite Beach on June 5, 2023, which also coincides with World Environment Day and this year’s theme is Fighting Plastic Pollution.

Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of RECAPP at Veolia Near & Middle East, said: “Deploying this advanced bottle recycling infrastructure and establishing a deposit scheme that rewards recycling stems from our strong commitment to sustainable consumption patterns that promote a circular economy and reduce environmental pressure. We believe that this new digital solution from Veolia will not only make it easier and easier for individuals to dispose of their waste responsibly, but will also contribute to the culture of recycling across the UAE as the UAE celebrates the Year of Sustainability Provide new impetus.”

Sheikha Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of Integrated Environmental Policy and Planning at EAD, said: “As the largest environmental regulator in the Middle East, EAD is delighted to be working with Veolia on this beneficial project through RECAPP. The single-use plastic policy, launched in 2020, is an extension of the agency’s public-facing “Mission Zero” outreach campaign to achieve the ambitious goal of zero plastic, zero waste, zero emissions and zero harm to biodiversity .

Activation and Advertising

“The campaign is made up of campaigns and advertisements designed to engage the community to inspire a culture of recycling. These initiatives play a key role in raising public awareness of the importance of recycling single-use water bottles to prevent them from entering the environment and provide sustainable water for all. Sustaining the future harms the environment. This partnership is an important milestone in the implementation of our umbrella policy, which works to reduce our reliance on single-use plastic items, such as bottles. To complement the RVM, we will launch an awareness campaign to generate awareness in the community interested in so that they actually collect the bottles and make them available for recycling. To support the success of such projects, the EAD engaged with key stakeholders such as large retailers, major attractions, real estate developers, etc. The agency also invited the private sector packaging Entities ensure more bottles are recycled in the emirate.”

RVM offers instant recycling solutions for all types of plastic water and beverage bottles and cans. They work by recycling bottle by bottle and can be placed indoors or outdoors in high traffic areas. All RVMs are connected to the RECAPP app and reward users with 150 points per recycled bottle, which is 8 times the Door to Door reward!

RSDM enables users to drop off their full bags of recyclables at convenient outdoor locations such as neighbourhoods, supermarket car parks or gas stations. RSDM connects to the RECAPP app and rewards users with 1500 points for every kilogram of recyclables deposited. RECAPP app users can redeem points earned with RVM and RSDM for attractive vouchers from a variety of top brands including grocery, fashion and e-commerce.

Holistic Digital Recycling

Launched in November 2020 by Veolia Near Middle East, a benchmarking company in ecological transformation, RECAPP is the first recycling application in the UAE. It has now transformed into a holistic digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses, employing third-party carriers to collect several types of small waste streams that are often poorly managed.

Over the years, RECAPP has grown into a community of 55,000 users, collecting more than 1,000 tons of recyclables, including 34 million PET plastic bottles, 1 million PET trays, 1 million aluminum cans, 1.5 million metal cans and 1.8 million household items. Nursing and personal care containers. 65,000 vouchers have been awarded to users, 18 reward partner combinations have been established, and 2,100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced. — trade arab news agency
