This Apple Dumpling Festival & 5K It will be held in downtown Stewart on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Mulberry Creek Professional Nursing and Assisted Living autumn festival It will be held at 300 and 400 Blue Ridge Street in Martinsville on October 29th from 10am-2pm. The event is open to the public and will be held with residents and staff. Jake Earles will perform from 1-2 pm; there will be Trunk-or-Treat and fresh popcorn. Mallory Dogz Lucky Venable’s famous fried fish will be available. Vendors will sell crafts, fragrances, cosmetics and miscellaneous items. A large gift basket will be drawn. Building tours and career fairs are part of the event.

Bassett Moose Lodge 75th Anniversary Celebration It will take place on Saturday 29th October at the hotel at 62 Spring Garden Lane, Bassett. It will start at 8am, vendors will start selling hot dogs at 4pm and BBQ lunches will be on sale at 11am. Proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to Wayne Geely. Carnival games will be set for kids. Ross Chastain, driver of NASCAR’s #1 Moose Car, will be there at 3:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet steak dinner from 6 p.m. and karaoke from 7-10 p.m. Scott Hart, CEO of Moose International, will be there .

Virginia Museum of Natural History shows Bonez & Booz Festival Saturday, October 29, 4-10pm This is the first-ever mix of science and fantasy, including special skeleton and fossil displays by museum scientists and Halloween-themed entertainment such as fire shows and magic Performance. There will also be a food truck and flashlight tour of the museum at 8:15pm. Prices range from free for children under 3, $5 for seniors and children 3-17 and $10 for children 18-59.

OktoberfestThe rain event due to Hurricane Ian has been rescheduled to December 3rd from 11am-4pm at Martinsville Uptown and renamed the “Fall Into Winter Fest”. The original plan was to reschedule it to later in October, but the MHC Chamber of Commerce reports that there are not enough registered suppliers to do so.

This Virginia Arts Council‘ Executive Director Margaret Hancock and a number of VCA grantees will be at Piedmont Arts this morning 10-11 for networking and conversation, and the public is invited to join them.

One Crochet Set Meet at the Collinsville Library every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon; join them for free.

Jennifer Reis will teach “Mini Art Quilt Class” Nov. 5 at 1 p.m., ages 12 to adults, at Piedmont Arts. Workshops will cover basic and advanced artisanal quilting techniques, teaching non-traditional methods of quilting, appliques, embroidery and decoration. Students will create individually designed decorative textile mini-arts using techniques such as original appliqués, embroidery, and decorating with sand mirrors, beads, and ready-made objects. Lisa Martin will teach drawing and sipping style “Fall Barn Quilt Class” November 17 at 6 p.m. at Piedmont Arts, for ages 12 to adults. No experience required; bring snacks and wine. Piedmont Art “Wee Create” craft class For children aged 2-6, everyone has his or her guardian. This Chix with Stix Knitters are invited to meet at Piedmont Arts on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 10:30 am to work on their personal projects. The fee is $5. Upcoming dates are October 25th, November 8th and 22nd, and December 13th and 27th.

One Piedmont Festival Opening Reception‘ The new exhibit will be at the museum on Friday, November 4th from 5:30-7:30pm. Ann Nichols will play music and provide complimentary refreshments and wine. New exhibits will be “The Art of the Quilt,” “The Virginia Foothills Quilting Guild,” and cross-stitch samplers created by Marilyn Vaughn over the past three decades.

Naomi Hodge-Muse teaches one Bob Ross Technique Drawing Class Second Thursday at 9:30am at the Piedmont Art Center. The theme of November 10 is the snow-capped mountains outside the lake; in December, another snow-capped mountain outside the lake is lined with green trees. The fee is $80.

“Beautiful Broken Virginia” November 17th at 6:30pm is a unique photo tour, shot by photographer John Plashal. It is part of a statewide initiative for the Virginia Museum of Art. Admission is a suggested donation of $20.

Oldskool will be on Friday night Cascade Schools Community Center Music and Dance, 7-9:30 p.m. at 3561 Huntington Trail. Admission is $8. The next band will be Jus’ Cauz on October 28th.

This 8th Riverside Wine Festival It will take place on Saturday, October 22nd from 2-7pm at the Smith River Coliseum hosted by the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation. Tickets range from $10 to $25. Uptown trick or treat Martinsville starts Thursday, October 27th at 4pm

Bassett Ruritan Club will host a halloween breakfast Friday, October 28 from 8am to 11am at their building on Philpott Dam Road. It will include the Best Costume Award, which will be judged separately for children and adults. Kitchen Pickers will perform and there will be a rookie game. Breakfast is $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Martinsville branch will host trunk or treatment Saturday, October 29, 4-7pm, for children ages 2-12. Each child will receive a book (while supplies last). Walk through the 14 stations of the Snack Road. Interactive Halloween Storytimes will be at 4:15pm, 5:15pm and 6:15pm

Henry County Parks and Recreation and 4H present a Halloween Hayride October 31st at Jack Dalton Park from 6-8pm

Stuart Spooktacular will be held from 5:30pm to 8pm. When roads are closed, vendors can start setting up at 4pm, and all vehicles must be removed from the street by 4:30. One Veterans Day Program Presented by the MHC Veterans Services Organization, it will be held at the HJDB Events Center on November 11th at 11am. Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society will be present “April 1865: Danville, Martinsville, and the End of the Civil War” November 20th at 3pm. A seasonal concert will be held on December 4th.
