Dubai, United Arab Emirates – ()–Responsible multinational e-cigarette company RELX International has successfully completed in-depth training for Abu Dhabi Customs and Department of Economic Development (DED) officials.

Prior to this, RELX held a similar training course for Ras Al Khaimah customs authority officials. To improve efficiency, RELX International has partnered with SABA IP, a leading intellectual property (IP) company.

The well-designed program showcases the leading e-cigarette brand’s commitment to fighting the illicit trade in electronic cigarette (e-cig) products with authorities and government agencies, and highlights its dedication to RELX’s commitment, including its groundbreaking Golden Shield program.

Training covers multiple areas including: Identifying legitimate products from illicit products (smuggled/counterfeit); Raising awareness and education about the consequences of the illicit trade in e-cigarettes; Sharing research and intelligence on identifying illicit trade activities; Tracking in collaboration with government officials and confiscation of counterfeit products, as well as developing and implementing product authentication, tracking and tracing technologies.

Contraband and counterfeit e-cigarettes are produced in unregulated facilities and pose serious health risks to consumers of legal age and minors [1]. Counterfeit e-cigarettes have been scientifically proven to be dangerous for several reasons: use of inferior e-liquid formulations; e-liquids contain harmful substances; capsules leak frequently; There is a serious error in the information on the dose of nicotine in the capsules.

“The training sessions of the Abu Dhabi Customs Authority, Department of Economic Development (DED) and Ras Al Khaimah Customs Authority demonstrate RELX International as a responsible company committed to working with local authorities, investigative companies and e-commerce platforms to identify and As part of RELX’s commitment to remove contraband and counterfeit vaping products from the market.

“We are delighted to have completed these focused training courses and completed a similar course for Saudi customs authorities in May,” Say Robert Naouss, Director of External Affairs, MENA & Europe, RELX International.

RELX International established the Golden Shield Program in August 2019 to prevent the production and sale of illegal goods. Since its inception, it has had a significant impact, removing over 550,000 counterfeit products from the market, as well as over 77,000 websites.

More training sessions are planned in Middle Eastern countries, including Egypt and Jordan, in line with the company’s commitment to protect legal e-cigarette users’ rights and combat illicit trade in e-cigarettes under the Golden Shield program.

Under the RELX Pledge initiative, the Golden Shield Program, the Guardian Program and the Green Shoots Program cover areas from product development to sales, as well as preventing and discouraging the use of vaping products by minors, strengthening on-site identification through joint efforts with retailers.

The Golden Shield program also seeks to equip consumers with the knowledge to verify genuine products through three different methods: through a verification code on the packaging of the genuine item; a laser tag that displays the letters “L” and “X” when viewed from different angles, and Displayed by a QR code on the pod.
