ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of renewable energy.
Rashid Mahmoud Langriar, Secretary of the Electricity Department, and Sherif Al Alama, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, signed on behalf of both parties.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif said the signing of the MoU with the UAE is a welcome move.
UAE ministers to sign different agreements after Eid al-Fitr
The Prime Minister said the UAE has stood by Pakistan in every difficult time and the UAE has played a key role in securing an agreement between the IMF and Pakistan.
The project has a capacity of 10,000 megawatts, he said. On the occasion, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Technology, said that the relationship between Pakistan and the UAE is very important. While appreciating the UAE’s efforts to combat climate change and develop renewable energy projects, the Prime Minister thanked the UAE for its support during the devastating floods in Pakistan last year.
He was speaking with Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the chair-designate of COP-28, UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change and Minister of Industry and Technology, who, along with a high-level delegation, visited the Prime Minister in Islamabad on Thursday.
The prime minister also expressed Pakistan’s full support for the UAE in hosting COP28.
The Prime Minister welcomed Dr. Sultan Jaber, stressed the importance of high-level engagement, and congratulated him on his appointment as COP28 President-designate.
He has full confidence in Dr. Jaber to preside over this important global meeting.
The Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to the UAE leadership for the success of this year’s event, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai from November 30 to December 12.
The Prime Minister also thanked the UAE for its important support to Pakistan, which was crucial in reaching the staff-level agreement with the IMF.
The Prime Minister also briefed the delegation on the Special Investment Facilitation Committee aimed at facilitating foreign investors in different fields. He also shared details of a 10,000 MW solar project that has been roadshowed in Dubai.
The UAE Minister highlighted the UAE’s leadership directive, asking him to further improve cooperation with Pakistan in the field of renewable energy, which will help improve Pakistan’s energy security.
The visiting dignitaries emphasized that they view Pakistan as an important partner in climate change dialogue and appreciate Islamabad’s active role in climate change diplomacy.
