An international experience awaits…
A new dining venue opened in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, named Newton. As Newton’s label, “Wine & Art Agency” is a tribute to the Berlin lunatic style bar, named after the prolific fashion photographer Helmut Newton.
The restaurant is decorated in soft emerald green, equipped with sofas and comfortable chairs, and the low-hanging incandescent lamp falls from the ceiling like a pendant, adding a comfortable atmosphere. Hanging in the restaurant are black and white fashion photos of this influential photographer, which have graced British magazines such as Vogue. Behind is a high-end bar where knowledgeable bartenders mix unique and Instagram-friendly bartenders for the guests.
Like other restaurants in Souk Madinat, although it was quiet when we visited during the peak summer period, there was also an outdoor area. We will book photo diners in advance to find a spot here in the cooler season.
On the menu, you will find many dishes that are popular in Berlin, but for fans of Italy, seafood, etc., there are many other options.
First, we chose hot garlic tempura shrimp (85 dirhams). Serve in a cosmopolitan glass and drizzle only a little sauce on the prawns to make them warm and crispy. We agreed that truffle fries (Dh55) were a must-have on the table, and we found ourselves dipping French fries in the rich chili and garlic mayonnaise that came with prawn dishes.
Next is steak tartare (120 dirhams). It comes with toasted garlic bread and horseradish sauce, and my tablemate gave a happy “um”. If you do not share, please choose a smaller potion (Dhs85) because it is full.
For the main course, we ordered grilled tiger prawns and grilled scallops (Dh190). Fresh and tender prawns require very little knife work and can easily fall off the shell. We raised uncertain eyebrows at the green pea puree it presented, but it turned out we were wrong because it was surprisingly delicious when paired together.
Next, we chose truffle oil mushroom pasta (95 dirhams)-this is a great choice for vegetarians. You can also add beef medallions (169 dirhams) or roast chicken (135 dirhams). The taste of truffles can easily make us want more, but be aware that the pasta is creamy (aka messy), so keep the organization insight.
To end our dining experience, chocolate fudge (65 AED) with vanilla ice cream and berry dessert is a welcome sweetness variation.
For beverages, there are many wines, beers and ciders, spirits, etc. that will keep you staring at the menu for a few minutes.
Thankfully, knowledgeable bartenders can help you choose the drink that suits your taste-so don’t be shy to ask for advice.
We were told that the artisan cocktails on the menu were only made with high-quality ingredients, and many cocktails were tried and tested to make them just right. What also caught our attention are the cocktail drinks made with non-alcoholic spirits on the menu-they are must-try and perfect for designated drivers.
One thing is for sure, if it’s not for food, drinks will definitely make you look back, because there are so many unique mixtures to try. If you are interested, there is even a cigar menu and shisha.
