Review: Rumba Cuban Bar and Kitchen

[ad_1]

A lively place full of authentic Cuban atmosphere…

In Dubai, there are not many places where you can find the real Cuban experience. Rumba Cuban Bar & Kitchen features a cigar lounge, a rum bar, Havana-style murals and a Caribbean cuisine menu to provide these.

Rumba recently opened in Club Vista Mare on the Palm Jumeirah, with sea views, beachfront seating and a huge indoor space suitable for summer. The details of the venue have received a lot of attention, from the set-like interiors that take you to the streets of Cuba, to the napkins rolled up like cigars.

When we arrived, the waiters dressed up like dancers as they wandered around the full bar. One side provides a relaxing lounge area with a high table, which contrasts with a large Havana painting. Thick velvet curtains separate it from the main dining area, where arched windows with flower bays are installed, which really makes us forget that we are on the coast of an artificial island in the UAE.

The menu is designed like an old sepia newspaper. Many dishes are in Spanish, so we pestered the team to ask for suggestions on what to try. Croquettes (65 dirhams) are a good choice, hot cheese oozes around the smoked veal, and slices of turkey ham wrapped in a crumbly coating and dipped in aioli.

A large part of the menu is dedicated to cocktails, as well as 27 different types of rum. Regardless of your beverage preference, our team is ready to make something you will love.

We are very impressed with tacos de pescado (85 dirhams) because they are full of flavor. Without filling, each soft taco has a large piece of fried fish, avocado slices, delicious coleslaw and topped with jalapeno mayonnaise.

If you like guacamole, Rumba’s signature version (Dhs89) is a must try. With skirt steak, cotija cheese, and airy French fries, we couldn’t help reaching for another bite.

When the power arrived, we were full but were very interested in the introduction of pescado frito en mole verde (130 dirhams). This dish looks more suitable for high-end restaurants. This is a slice of red snapper dipped in a light green sauce, followed by a swirl of vegetables. Sadly, since the dish generally lacks any appealing flavor, most of the energy is devoted to the display.

Among our other main dishes, we chose meat, we chose ropa vieja (110 dirhams). After wiping off all the appetizers, a thick plate of sirloin, Cuban black beans and rice is not the wisest choice. However, this dish is super authentic and delicious, if our taste is a bit heavy on spices.

With more and more guests, news of the new location seems to have spread. Once the resident live band in the bar starts operating, we believe that it will remain busy throughout the summer.
