PARIS, France — UFC middleweight Roman Kopiloff snapped a two-game losing streak and won his first UFC victory by knocking out Alessio Di Chirico by KO at UFC Paris .
Kopilov (9-2) finished his fight Saturday night, avoiding a horrific three-game losing streak.
“I’m happy to win. The first two games were not lucky for me, so I’m happy to be in the win. Hopefully we can bring a good fight and keep winning,” Kopilov said in the post-match brawl told Cageside Press and other media through a translator.
“The last two games were losses, so winning this one was very important for me. I tried my best to win and I knew I had to walk away in the winning column no matter what.”
Kopilov ended the fight in the third round, but Diccirico was one of the toughest fighters on the list and had his hands full for the first two rounds.
“The first round was in my favor. I thought I was doing well. A little sideways in the second round. I’m not sure what happened, but it didn’t go my way,” Kopilov said.
Between rounds, his corner stepped in to get him back on track.
“Of course, my corner saw what was going on. They gave me some corrections. I took those corrections, and with their corrections and guidance, I found victory,” Kopilov said.
Towards the end of the fight, Di Chirico seemed exhausted and stopped raising his hands. Kopilov noticed and attacked.
“To be honest, I’ve been hitting one-up punches and they did hurt him, but he’s been recovering. So my corner kept saying ‘keep working the combo’ and when I first threw a combo, you saw what happened,” he said.
So what should be the next step after Kopilov’s statement at UFC Paris?
“I haven’t thought of an opponent yet, but if we’re talking about Abu Dhabi, October 22. I’m happy to be ready for that.”
