Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the first phase of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Improvement Corridor project.

The first phase of the project extends from the intersection of Ras Al Khor and Dubai-Al Ain Road (Bu Kadra intersection) to the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road and Nad Al Hamar Road.

Works include widening the road from three to four lanes in each direction within 4 kilometers and opening all bridges to Dubai Creek Harbour, extending 1,730 meters and accommodating approximately 10,600 vehicles per hour. This phase also includes the construction of a 4.2 km two-lane auxiliary road along Ras Al Khor Road.

“The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor project is one of the strategic road improvement projects implemented in response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. RTA Director General and Executive Director Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “This is part of an ongoing process of enhancing the capabilities of infrastructure components to support the emirate’s strategic objectives and serve overall development. “

“The Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project is one of the largest projects currently undertaken by the RTA. Phases 1 and 2 of the project include the widening of Ras Al Khor Road from the intersection of Ras Al Khor and Dubai-Al Ain Road 8 km until the intersection with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, in addition to a 2 km stretch of bridge road with a total of one service road on either side.

“After the completion of the two phases, the traffic volume on Ras Al Khor Road will jump to 10,000 vehicles per hour and the journey time will be reduced from 20 minutes to about 7 minutes. The project will improve traffic safety and flow, and eliminate existing overlapping traffic point,” he said.

The project serves a series of major developments housing 650,000 people, namely the Lagoon, Dubai Creek, Meydan Horizon, Ras Al Khor, Al Wasl and Nad Al Hamar complexes. Al Tayer added that in the future, the scope of the project will include the construction of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing, which spans the Dubai Creek and connects Al Jadaf in Bur Dubai with the road separating the Dubai Creek project and Dubai Festival City.

stage 2
