Movies/Music in the Park, sponsored by the Uniontown Ruritan Club, will provide Uniontown School District residents with some free family fun this summer at the park in the town square.
“Earlier this year, we had a brainstorming session to consider ideas for community service projects in 2023,” said Mary Pemberton, one of the committee members. “Mauriel Whisenhunt and I proposed to highlight and utilize beautiful city parks that bring people together and provide entertainment for all ages. One of our ideas was a movie in the park. The idea was well received and extended to Music included. We decided to have a movie event in the park every month and another separate music night in the park each month from June to July to August.”
“Our schedule starts on June 9day Movie nights in the park,” said Mary Pemberton, one of the committee members. Each movie night begins at 7 p.m. and offers games and activities such as: sidewalk games, cornhole, peg ball, Dodgeball, washing machine throws, face painting and petroglyphs. Then the movie starts at 9pm – it’s an outdoor movie screening, so bring your own chair or blanket“
The group plans to alternate musical entertainment on evenings this summer.
“Alternating film and music means next event, June 23road It’s a music night,” Pemberton said. “Music nights have food trucks from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and music shows from 7 to 8:30 p.m. We schedule a different genre of music each month – Mike Miller (gospel), Rick Hite (country/folk) and Ridge Runnerz (classic rock/country). “
“June 23road and July 14day There will be special performances by the mother-daughter duo, both of whom are world-class baton spinners,” she said. part of the practice program. They’re talented – you won’t want to miss it; spinning a baton is an art you don’t see locally at this level of skill, and Kristi and Lexie are truly awesome. “
Films, music, games/activities and entertainment are free and are invited to Uniontown School District residents, she said.
“We’re also giving away free hot dogs/chips/drinks at our first event, free ice cream socials in July, and free popcorn with every movie,” Pemberton said. “Tips and/or voluntary donations to musicians are acceptable but not required.”
Food trucks will be available on select dates.
“Food trucks include Los Tres Pollitos on June 23; the Ruritan Club sells pulled pork BBQ sandwiches on July 14; and the Pink Heifer food truck is here on August 11,” Pemberton said. “Also, Sunshine Shak sells candy, snacks and drinks here most nights.”
