The prosecutor asked the court to restrict the spokesperson of the Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who is currently under house arrest.

According to her Twitter account, Russian prosecutors asked the court to restrict Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny’s spokesman Kira Yamish, who is currently under house arrest for two years.

“The prosecutor’s office requested two years of restrictive freedom for Kira… and she is still under house arrest before the sentence takes effect,” Yarmysh’s Twitter account said on Thursday.

The Russian Attorney General’s Office did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Another post in Yarmysh’s Twitter account stated that the court is expected to issue a verdict on August 16.

Russia has Blow Oppose the opposition before the parliamentary elections scheduled for September. Most of Navalny’s important allies have either left Russia or are facing prosecution.

Yarmysh’s lawyer, Veronika Polyakova, said on Twitter that the prosecution wanted to prohibit Yarmysh from leaving home, leaving Moscow, or changing residence between 10 pm and 6 am.

Since February, Yarmysh has been under house arrest and accused of violating COVID-19 security regulations. The authorities described this as an unauthorized protest in support of Navalny. She said the allegation was politically motivated.

The 31-year-old has been Navalny’s spokesperson since 2014.

Navalny is a critic of President Vladimir Putin. He himself served two and a half years in prison for breaching parole, which was related to the crime of corruption he claimed was fabricated.
