United Arab Emirates – Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, Abu Dhabi has retained its Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification designation through the Audubon Golf Course Cooperative Sanctuary Program.
It is one of 900 Audubon International certified golf courses worldwide and the only one in the UAE.
Endorsed by the USGA, the program provides information and guidance to help golf courses protect and enhance wildlife habitat and preserve natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe and Asia support the program.
“Saadiyat Beach has demonstrated a strong commitment to its environmental program. They deserve credit for protecting Saadiyat Island’s natural heritage by protecting the local watershed and providing sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course,” said Audubon International CEO Christine Kane said.
Kane continued: “To be accredited, programs must demonstrate that they maintain a high level of environmental quality in a number of areas.”
These categories include: Environmental Planning, Wildlife and Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation and Water Quality Management. Courses undergo a reaccreditation process every three years.
Corey Finn, Director of Golf Courses at VIYA Golf, said: “We are delighted that Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has received reaccreditation and this prestigious industry recognition. Audobon works with our stakeholders and will continue to work on this project to consult with them to protect and enhance the natural habitat of Saadiyat Beach. Thank you to all the teams in Abu Dhabi for supporting this important initiative.
