Family drama can get pretty messy, even for a duchess. Meghan Markle’s half sister Samantha Markle A defamation suit has been filed against the former Suit actor.

According to court documents filed Friday and obtained by ET, Samantha is suing Meghan “for defamation based on her half-sister making patently false and malicious statements to audiences around the world.”

Samantha alleges in her lawsuit that she was with Meghan She and Prince Harry interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Samantha further claimed that Meghan “published and disseminated false and malicious statements about her” in the 2020 book, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family.

Meghan’s comments about her were a ‘lie designed to destroy’, lawsuit says [Samantha’s] reputation, and [her] Leading to humiliation, shame and hatred worldwide. “

Samantha further claimed that Meghan “has orchestrated a campaign to smear and discredit her sister and her father’s reputation and credibility to uphold and promote the false story about her life that the defendants have fabricated to the royal family and the world” by the media. “

She went on to deny what she said was Markle’s claims about not spending much time with Samantha growing up, as well as her comments claiming that Samantha was a “high school dropout.” She also denied what she said was Meghan’s claim that Samantha changed her surname to Markle after news first broke in 2018 that Meghan and Prince Harry were dating.

Samantha is seeking $75,000 in damages and a jury trial.

ET has reached out to Meghan and Harry for comment on the lawsuit.

The feud between Samantha and Meghan has been in the public eye for more than five years. In 2018, in an interview with ITV good morning ukSamantha insists She’s not ‘making money’ on Meghan’s famedespite being an often outspoken critic.

“I’ve worked in media and broadcasting for most of my life, so my sister suddenly being a royal is not a reason for me to stop doing it,” Samantha said. “Let’s face it – we all Must survive. Money makes the world go round so if you want to call it cashing that’s fine, but I don’t think anyone in the media is going to refuse to pay a salary for talking about the royal family, as a family we are not bound by royal protocol. Why Am I going to stop living because we have family issues?”

“No one owns the copyright on our life experiences, so, I think the public forgets that in the family, each of us has our own life experiences,” she continued. “With all due respect, it’s not just Meghan. We have the right to share this. We have the right to be open about it, and it would be great if we could shed light on some issues for the public, and we can enjoy the process… I Don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. It’s not demeaning. It’s not harmful.”
