LAX Media MA LLC, the parent company of Apple Cinemas, won the bid to renovate the former Regal Cinemas at 213 Turnpike Road.
The selection committee awarded the bid at its Nov. 2 meeting. The award is contingent upon completion of the sale and purchase agreement and other conditions.
The bid is $2.5 million.
The award capped a process that the board had undertaken for several weeks. In early September, the board heard three proposals—a business “hive” for local entrepreneurs; a movie theater to be converted into an entertainment center; and a condo project.
The board then evaluated each proposal and rated them using several criteria, including sustainability and how quickly they could proceed.
Company co-founders Jegan Gomangalam and Udayana Kotta said they hope to renovate “about 70%” of the building; the proposed centre will include 12 cinema screens with laser projection, reclining seating, an indoor patio and lounge areas, A new kitchen and a full bar.
Since opening its first cinema in 2013, the East Walpole-based company has pulled back the curtain on 12 more, including in Cambridge and Warwick, Rhode Island, and plans to open six more in the near future movie theater.
In addition, the company has plans for electric car parking and bicycle parking.
