Sharjah Government Employee Salary Now Starts at Dh20,000
Sharjah has raised the minimum monthly income level for government employees to Dh20,000, in a move aimed at improving living standards and financial stability for workers.
The decision was approved by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and took effect from September 2026. The package has an annual cost of more than Dh1.187 billion.
The increase will benefit 17,776 Sharjah government employees. Officials said the new measure means government employees will not have a monthly income below Dh20,000 under the updated standard.
The change also gives higher starting salaries to new government employees. University graduates will receive a net monthly salary of Dh27,125, while employees joining with a high school qualification will receive Dh20,950 after social insurance deductions.
The support package also extends beyond current employees. It includes higher support for families receiving social assistance and retirees.
Around 6,652 families receiving social support will benefit from the updated minimum living standard. The measure also covers 2,251 retirees from the Sharjah government and 5,300 citizens receiving supplementary grants after retiring outside the Sharjah government.
The decision comes as Sharjah focuses on helping families manage everyday costs and improve financial security.
Sheikh Sultan has also said that the government is studying further increases for higher-paid employees, with a review planned for the coming week. He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary borrowing and make greater use of saving and careful spending.
