ISLAMABAD: The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif to pay an official visit to the brotherly country.
This will be Sheikh Baz Sharif’s second visit to the UAE, but also his first official visit since taking office. Details of the visit are being worked out, and it is bound to be a productive one, a source in the foreign ministry told The News here on Friday. The visit, likely to take place in the first week of September, will see the prime minister lead a high-level delegation.
The UAE has announced significant investment in Pakistan. As a first step, it has pledged to invest more than $1 billion in various areas. The prime minister will hold talks with top leaders of the host country and investors and discuss how to further strengthen existing cooperation in different areas, the sources said. Discussions will mainly cover various aspects of the economic field.
Sources said the current government is mending ties with countries that have been uneasy under the PTI, while working to improve existing ties with traditional friends including the UAE. The source added that the UAE ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, will travel to Abu Dhabi for consultations with the government ahead of the prime minister’s visit. Meanwhile, sources reminded that a high-level UAE delegation will visit Pakistan next week to discuss economic and trade cooperation.
