Sheryl Lee Ralph recently shared some words of wisdom for the Rutgers University Class of 2023.
“Find out what makes you happy. If you like what you do, it doesn’t feel like a job,”
The Emmy-winning actress, who received an “honorary Doctor of Fine Arts” from her alma mater, delivered a powerful commencement speech for the students and encouraged them to “bring the best” to the world, through hollywood reporter.
“Bring your best to the world. We need it. You see us as we are. Bring your best work, your best ideas,” she began.
The actress continued, “I can just picture you guys coming to campus for the first time as freshmen. I mean, everything looks so rosy and bright.”
this Abbot Primary School The star explained, “Then, our country and the world took a tragic and difficult turn.”
“Kobe died, George Floyd died, then the world stopped, and when COVID-19 happened, everything changed…it stopped the world,” the actress said.
Ralph said to the students: “You, you persisted to the end, you never gave up, you found your own way, you continued to study, you continued to do your work. You are still here on graduation day!”
The Instant Moms actress also advises students never to feel embarrassed about having themselves.
“Love what you see because the better you are for yourself, the better you are for other people,” she said.
Finally, Ralph advises, “Keep at it. Wrap yourself in it. Live in it, because that’s the key to a happy life.”
