The six couples who divorced in less than 10 days were the shortest marriages on record in the UAE last year. One of the couples divorced after 2 days of marriage, while the other couple’s marriage lasted only 3 days.

The two couples who separated after 56 and 49 years were the longest marriages registered over the same period.

The cases are among the 596 divorce cases recorded in the UAE in 2022, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

Divorce cases fell from 648 in 2021 to 596 in 2022, the data showed.

Statistics show that 290 divorce cases involved Emirati couples, while 180 involved expats, female citizens and non-citizen couples.

Federal courts registered divorces in the emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Infidelity or extramarital affairs, lack of preparation and commitment, poor or lack of communication, physical and verbal abuse, social media, failure of one spouse to take responsibility and unrealistic expectations are some of the things that family counselors and psychologists in the UAE say The main reasons for early divorce in the UAE.

Clinical psychologist Dr Dolly Habbal, who works with Advanced Cure, earlier told Khaleej Times that many marriages end in divorce due to lack of commitment and responsibility in the marriage.

“Many people prepare for a wedding, not a marriage. When partners are unfaithful to each other, they may not be able to give enough effort to their relationship, which over time can weaken their bond and lead to divorce, “she says.

“When you’re in a committed relationship, you need to reevaluate your priorities and think about both of you, not just yourself.”

Habar also pointed to personality incompatibility and differences in mindset and personality as other reasons for early divorce. This leads to constant bickering and bickering, she says, as both spouses try to prove themselves right and the other wrong instead of engaging in real confrontation and compromise.
