South African rapper AKA shot dead in Durban

February 11 (United Press International) — The famous South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, nicknamed AKA, and his friend chef Tebello Motsoane were shot dead in Durban, authorities said.

Without identifying the victim, SA Police say a statement Late Friday, two men were shot dead at point-blank range by a pair of armed assailants as they walked from a restaurant to their car in the coastal city.

A motive for the killing remained unknown on Saturday, with police appealing for anyone with information about the killing to come forward.

The rapper’s parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes, later confirmed the death of their 35-year-old son.

“It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the loss of our beloved son and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the night of February 10, 2023,” they wrote. in a statement Posted on AKA’s official Twitter.

“AKA is one of the most patriotic artists who has flown the South African flag across the globe,” South Africa’s Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture said in a release.
