A celebration of the achievements of South Asian women was held in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, galvanizing the community to advance in entertainment and creating space for “mainstream triumphs.”

South Asian communities have particular struggles, including flouting religious and social norms and traditions, transphobia, and sometimes government interference in their home countries.
According to event organizers, South Asian women account for just 0.3 percent of TV and film screen time.
“It’s important to build these spaces and celebrate the victories of the world’s largest diaspora,” said Archana Misra Jain, CEO of Product of Culture. A space where the mainstream wins. Bhavani G. Rao, founder and writer/producer of South Asian Women in Entertainment (SAWIE), echoed the sentiment. “The importance of these events is that they provide an opportunity to bring all parts of our South Asian community together. When we get to know each other, we can work together and build a larger network to make an impact and move forward.”
2023 Academy Award nominee Lena Khan added: “I’m now working on a film that finally breaks down stereotypes and embraces the South Asians who really exist among us.” Strangers at the door. “We don’t want to pander to the masses, but we’re honing our talents, supporting each other, and creating our own opportunities, personas, and images with our industry allies.
