ANAHEIM, Calif. — In addition to leading agile, muscular superheroes, Nick Fury can apparently sing a tune.
The latest version of the fictional Avengers founder and leader will join Captain America and other Marvel heroes in a new original musical called “Rodgers: The Musical” at the Hyperion Theater at Disney California Adventure.
The Broadway-style musical debuted in the first episode of the Disney+ miniseries “Hawkeye.” It tells the origin story of Steve Rogers, a humble WWII American soldier who transforms into Captain America and becomes a key member of the Avengers.
“This is a classic tale of heroes, time travel and romance, oh, and Nick Fury ) singing.”
The musical is at the Hyperion Theater for the first time since the government restricted the closure of theme parks across the state to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Before the pandemic, “Frozen – Live at Hyperion” had been performed at the theater since 2016.
Most weeks beginning June 30, “Rodgers: The Musical” at the Hyperion Theater will be a 30-minute, one-act live theatrical production, Tuesday through Saturday, Disneyland officials said.
Disneyland officials said the musical will be set in New York and feature singers and dancers who will sing classic tales of heroes, time travel and romance.
Program music includes “Save the City” from the Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” and Premiere at D23 exposition. Other musical episodes are “The Man with the Star-Spangled Banner” from the movie “Captain America: The Avengers,” and five new original songs.
