Supporting the UAE’s publishing and library sector

The UAE Publishers Association (EPA) and the UAE Library and Information Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and support the common mission of the UAE publishing and library sector.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Rashid Mohammed Al Kous, Executive Director, UAE Publishers Association; Abdullah Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Board, EPA; Fahd Ali Al Maamari, Chairman, Board of Directors, UAE Library and Information Association; some members.

Al Kaabi emphasized that the agreement is in line with the association’s strong commitment to strengthen cooperation, foster collaboration and facilitate the exchange of experiences with all institutions within the knowledge sector. The ultimate goal is to advance the publishing industry in the UAE and build it into a sustainable and thriving industry that caters to the needs of different fields of knowledge. He also highlighted the complementary roles played by the EPA and ELIA in supporting the publishing houses’ efforts and promoting the intellectual and cultural development of the UAE.

He added: “This agreement helps provide more resources for authors and publishers, with the overall goal of promoting increased knowledge production. In addition, we are eager to produce specialized publications that specifically meet the needs of library industry professionals, providing them with Providing the latest insights and developments. These collective efforts help to enhance the competitiveness of the UAE publishing industry and expand its cognitive and economic impact.”

For his part, Fahd Ali Al Maamari said: “Initiatives, projects and dedicated events, along with the success of the UAE Publishers Association, make us optimistic about the future of this collaboration for mutual benefit. With libraries, Aligned with the remarkable advancements in the information and publishing industries, and driven by our shared commitment to advancing knowledge and culture, we develop and disseminate cutting-edge education, training and qualification programs that provide interested individuals with the latest advancements and resources in these areas. Through this collaboration, we strive towards our shared goal of promoting the growth and enrichment of knowledge and culture.”

The UAE Library and Information Association is preparing to launch a groundbreaking publishing grant scheme designed exclusively for members of the UAE Publishers Association. The main objective of the program is to provide financial support to eligible publishers to print up to five original books dedicated to the library industry. Through this initiative, ELIA aims to encourage the creation of fresh and innovative content that addresses the specific needs and interests of the library sector.

From August 1-31, EPA member publishers seeking to participate in the program can register their interest through the website. The results of the program will be announced in December this year.
