Birmingham, Alabama (world) — Sylacauga city leaders are working to elevate their downtown area with two new recreation districts. The Sylacauga Business Development Authority is working with the City Council to advance these plans.
Councillor Nate Brewer said initial ideas for the entertainment district began 12 years ago. Plans to add what the Sylacauga Business Development Authority calls an “entertainment area” could be completed by October, he said.
Before finalizing plans, all partners must understand how they want everything to be laid out, Brewer said.
In addition to the children’s play area, neighbors can look forward to events such as concerts in the entertainment area, he said. Places for people to go out, eat and shop are also under construction.
“Whatever you need,” Brewer said. “That’s what this entertainment complex is all about, there are different things to do for the citizens in every part of it.”
Pizza and Pint employee Matthew Hebert said he believed the new additions could have a positive impact on local businesses.
Herbert said he hopes this will keep the city on a path to growth.
“I remember, like, this place used to be small,” Herbert said. “There’s not much to do here, growing more now, everyone benefits”
Brewer said local businesses are at the heart of their town, and they hope to bring more appeal to those businesses with the new entertainment precinct.
“We want to try to keep everyone in Sylacauga, we want to bring other people from other cities here, because if you have an event, you can do different things at the same time,” Brewer said. “Then you can have something for certain groups of people in every place.”
Brewer believes the addition of the entertainment district will have a huge impact on their community and believes they will take Sylacauga to the next level.
