Team USA will host Greece, and likely Bucks Super star Giannis Antetokounmpoin a historic exhibition match in Abu Dhabi in August ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Americans to play Greece — barring injury in game NBA The playoffs, which will be captained by Antetokounmpo – Aug. 18 and Aug. 20 in Germany, USA Basketball announced at a Wednesday morning news conference.
This will be Team USA’s first game in the United Arab Emirates. The NBA has set up a stronghold in Abu Dhabi, Antetokounmpo’s Bucks and atlanta hawks last October; another set of NBA exhibition games is in the works for next fall.
“We’re excited to engage with fans from around the globe, while also providing our players and coaches with unforgettable experiences on and off the court,” USA Basketball CEO Jim Tully said in the release. “We thank the national federations of Greece and Germany for their participation as they prepare for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, arguably the toughest international basketball tournament.”
Team USA is calling the three-day event the “USA Basketball Showcase” and is hosting it in partnership with Emirates’ culture and tourism department.Greece and Germany will meet on August 19 and all three teams will advance world cupstarting August 25 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
Tickets for the Middle East Showcase will go on sale sometime this spring, according to USA Basketball.
Antetokounmpo and his brothers played for Greece at the 2019 World Cup, in December Antetokounmpo told Athletic His aim is to lead his country to the Cup title in 2023.
