Teddi Mellencamp has been diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma.
The 41-year-old reality star revealed on Instagram that her doctor found an “abnormal area” on her back, which she will remove next week.
She wrote: “Melanoma awareness update. Despite my anxiety I listened to my doctor and had a 3 month skin check last week as I had a previous melanoma. They said my last There was another abnormal site near the site, so they took a biopsy. I got a call this morning: melanoma stage 2. Now, next Wednesday I’m going to the oncologist to remove it and have a game plan for what’s next. Of course, It’s all pending some additional testing and biopsies at other sites in the neighborhood today.”
The ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star admits she was initially reluctant to see a doctor three months after her last skin check because she didn’t think anything bad would happen by then, but she has now urged Others go to see if their doctor recommends it.
She added: “The moral of the story: If the doctor says ‘come every 3 months’, go every 3 months. I’m desperate to blow it off.” What happens in 3 months? I think. Obviously a lot. I continue to share this journey as I was a 90s teen applying baby oil and iodine to my skin to tan it. I didn’t wear sunscreen or check my moles until I was 40. This has been a wake-up call for me and I hope you all, love and protect the skin you’re in. (sic)”
In March, when she was found to have melanoma in situ, Teddi developed skin cancer, the earliest form – also known as stage 0 melanoma – in which the cancer cells are located in the top layer of the skin.
