Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the close interaction between Iranian and United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials, saying that the Islamic Republic believes There are no restrictions on the relationship with the countries of the Persian Gulf.
Amir Abdullahian made the remarks during a telephone conversation with UAE President Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday.
Relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi are progressing, he said, noting that “active meetings and consultations are taking place between officials of both countries.”
Amir-Abdollahian noted that “Iran sees no limit to the development of cooperation with the UAE”.
For his part, the UAE Foreign Minister stressed the importance of promoting bilateral relations in pursuit of mutual interests, emphasizing that there are ample opportunities for cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Al Nahyan then hailed the increased level of cooperation between regional countries in recent weeks, including the rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh and new developments in Syria.
The foreign ministers of the two countries also exchanged best wishes on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, and exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international affairs.
In addition, the two senior diplomats also invited each other to visit their respective countries.
Earlier this month, Iran appointed Reza Ameri as its new special envoy to the United Arab Emirates, ending seven years without an ambassador for the country.
The UAE downgraded its ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2016 after Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran.
However, under a deal brokered by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia recently agreed to restore diplomatic relations after a seven-year hiatus, and their embassies and consulates are expected to reopen soon.
