Temperatures in the UAE approached 50°C, with a maximum of 49.1°C on Monday. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has been reporting temperatures above 45°C for over a week. Summer has really started.

Storm Center, head of weather-related social media, said in a recent Twitter post that the period known locally as “Dor Al Ashar” had begun. This marks the arrival of what is known as “Qiyed” in the ancient Arabic calendar Drour. During this time, surface temperatures and humidity levels rise.

“Qiyed” signifies the beginning of high temperature in summer. It culminates in the so-called “Jamrat Al Qiyed” (remaining heat), which is the hottest period in the Arabian Peninsula. It is expected to run from early July until August 10. It is characterized by extreme heat, severe drought, warm winds and extreme dryness. Soon after, the star Sohail rises, marking the end of summer. This happened around August 20th.

The Drour calendar divides the year into 10-day sections based on when the stars rise. It started with the discovery of the Sohaier star. These parts are divided into three seasons of 100 days each – Autumn, Winter and Spring. The remaining days—until Sohail is discovered again—mark summer.

The UAE Astronomical Center said in May that the star “Al Sharatan” rose in the eastern sky, marking the beginning of summer.

prayer time

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, president of the Emirates Astronomical Society, tweeted how Fajr prayer times are now as early as possible. Fajr prayers are performed between dawn and sunrise.

“Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will have (earliest) Fajr prayers and sunrise at dawn on Monday, June 12. In Abu Dhabi, Fajr prayers are scheduled for 4am, while in Sharjah, Fajr prayers are scheduled for 4am. At 3.57am. The sun is expected to rise in Abu Dhabi at 5.28am and in Sharjah at 5.24am,” Al Jarwan wrote.

This will continue until June 18, after which time will move forward.

For example, according to Dedicated Prayer Times Page for Khaleej TimesIn Dubai, the dawn prayer will be held from June 10 to 15 at 3.58am. They hit 4am on June 23rd. By the end of the month, the time for prayer will be given at 4:02 am.

The time will gradually advance in July, and by the end of July, the morning prayer time will be 4:20 am. Towards the end of August there will be a morning prayer called at 4.40am.
