Texas combines hundreds of separate Astroworld lawsuits into one

[ad_1]

Roommates, distance happens in Astroworld Festival In Houston, ten people were killed and thousands were injured. Hundreds of deadly music festival lawsuits against Live Nation and Travis Scott. A Texas court panel has formally approved the consolidation of the lawsuits into one instead of nearly 400 individual lawsuits, new reports show.

according to billboardOn January 26, the Texas Multi-District Litigation Judicial Panel (MDL) granted a joint motion by victims and organizers to consolidate the lawsuit before a single judge for all pretrial proceedings. The new cases will include at least 387 separate lawsuits representing nearly 2,800 alleged victims. The lawsuits allege that Live Nation, Travis and other organizers were legally negligent in planning and implementing Astroworld. Victims and their families are seeking billions of dollars in total damages.

The report also shows that multi-district litigation is standard procedure in mass injury lawsuits. The goal is to avoid the inefficiency of trying many cases with key similarities individually. The process appears to allow a judge to coordinate the case to simplify complex pretrial procedures such as discovery, the process of handing over evidence.

Also, it may be easier to negotiate a single solution. The billboard also showed the two sides agreeing on a new move for a single case. Lawyers for both parties wrote that this type of litigation is exactly what the Texas MDL process was designed to address. As of now, the order does not reveal which Texas judge will handle the case, but in their joint filing, attorneys and organizers for the victims asked Judge Lauren Reeder. The report did not clarify when Judge Reed was their choice. Roommates, we’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
