Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director of the Bureau of Expo 2020, and Najeeb Mohammed Al Ali; Marwan Obaid Al Muhairy, Executive Director, Office of the Commissioner-General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Sarah Mohammed Falaknaz and Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, FNC members, and Commissioner-General Abdulla bin Shaheen, senior vice president of the office, also attended the National Day celebration.

Sheikh Nahyan welcomed the Swiss delegation to the flag-raising ceremony on the Al Wasl Plaza national stage and praised the strong relationship between the UAE and Switzerland.

In his speech, the President of Switzerland said: “On the Swiss National Day of Expo 2020 Dubai, we stand together at Al Wasl Square in the center of this impressive venue to recognize and celebrate the first world exhibition in the Middle East and North. Africa. .

“Holding a six-month event that brings together all parts of the world will be a major feat at any time. However, doing so in uncertain times (such as the past 18 months) is a remarkable achievement. I sincerely congratulate the UAE for making Expo 2020 Dubai a reality, and thank the organizers for their continued cooperation and kind support.”

Sheikh Nahyan said: “I am pleased to mention that as early as April 2016, Switzerland was the first country to confirm its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai and the first country to showcase its pavilion to the world. With a long history of participation. History, it’s no surprise that the Swiss Pavilion has won multiple awards for its architecture, exhibits and thematic interpretation.”

He added: “The relationship between the UAE and Switzerland can be traced back to the early 1970s, during the time of the late founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Since then, our relationship has cooperated in various fields. China is booming. With its active participation in the Swiss business center, the UAE has about 200 Swiss companies, and Switzerland remains one of the UAE’s most important trading partners.”

A series of events featured the Swiss artist Saype, who showed his project “Beyond Walls” in al Forsan Park, a huge piece of land art, and “Cirque au Sommet” is an exclusive performance at Al Wasl Square and the Swiss Pavilion .

Manuel Salchli, Commissioner-General of the Swiss Pavilion and Chairman of the Steering Committee of Expo 2020 Dubai, added: “Today is very special for us because we welcome our President to celebrate the Swiss National Day. This is indeed a great moment to bring Switzerland closer to the people of the UAE. “

The Swiss Pavilion is located in the Opportunity Zone and offers an emotional journey through the country.

Through the extraordinary “Sea of ​​Fog” experience, tourists enjoy traditional Switzerland known for its magical landscapes and mountains, and then discover its innovative projects and global achievements in technology, education, and sustainable development.

In cooperation with Swissnex and in conjunction with the theme week of Expo 2020 Dubai, the Swiss Pavilion will organize a series of lectures, conferences, seminars and exhibitions before March 2022. Themes include urban and rural development, tolerance and inclusiveness, technology, health and wellness, etc. .

According to the 2021 Global Innovation Index-WIPO, Switzerland has become the most innovative country for the 11th consecutive year. Since October 1, the pavilion has received more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world, and is one of the six longest queues for the 2020 Dubai Expo.

The Swiss Pavilion relies on a public-private partnership model with Schindler, Rolex SA, Swiss Tourism, Clariant, Novartis, Roche, Nestlé Middle East and North Africa and KGS Diamond Group Co., Ltd. and many suppliers.
