UAE Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohamed Abu Shahab emphasized that addressing the root causes of conflicts, especially those that exacerbate internal discrimination and widening inequality in society, has proven to be one of the most effective means to maintain international peace and security .

Ambassador Abu Shahab said in a statement that the government must ensure that all people have access to education and economic opportunities, “this is an important step in reducing inequality and addressing the drivers of long-term conflict.” He also emphasized that ensuring the inclusion and participation of women and youth in national strategies and measures aimed at building resilience is essential.

Ambassador Abu Shahab emphasized the importance of including the perspectives of a wide range of local grassroots actors, especially women and youth leaders. He said that the Security Council must ensure that peace operations’ strategies and missions are designed for local communities from the outset and coordinated with them.
