Ambassador Abu Shahab said in a statement that the government must ensure that all people have access to education and economic opportunities, “this is an important step in reducing inequality and addressing the drivers of long-term conflict.” He also emphasized that ensuring the inclusion and participation of women and youth in national strategies and measures aimed at building resilience is essential.

Ambassador Abu Shahab emphasized the importance of including the perspectives of a wide range of local grassroots actors, especially women and youth leaders. He said that the Security Council must ensure that peace operations’ strategies and missions are designed for local communities from the outset and coordinated with them. Developed together by the local community.

He also added that the UN peacekeeping and political missions must help the locals build capacity, strengthen the rule of law, and promote long-term stability.

Ambassador Abu Shahab also asserted that fighting corruption is essential to maintaining good governance and the rule of law. In this regard, he noted that the UAE has recently reached an agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to develop a plan to support the implementation of the 2019 Abu Dhabi Declaration.
