Ambassador Abu Shahab emphasized the importance of including the perspectives of a wide range of local grassroots actors, especially women and youth leaders. He said that the Security Council must ensure that peace operations’ strategies and missions are designed for local communities from the outset and coordinated with them. Ambassador Abu Shahab also asserted that fighting corruption is essential to maintaining good governance and the rule of law. In this regard, he noted that the UAE has recently reached an agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to develop a plan to support the implementation of the 2019 Abu Dhabi Declaration.
