Abu Dhabi’s Artificial Wave Holds Its Own Among the World’s Best, According to Renowned Surfer

Renowned Surfer Top surfers from around the world experienced the exclusive first test ride at Surf Abu Dhabi on Hudayriyat Island, a facility set to open its doors in early 2024. The event featured the presence of 11-time World Surf League champion Kelly Slater and other renowned surfers, showcasing waves developed in collaboration with the Kelly Slater Wave Company.

Setting Records and Redefining Surfing: Surf Abu Dhabi’s Vision

Surf Abu Dhabi aims to become a global surfing destination, boasting the world’s longest ride, largest barrel, and a state-of-the-art man-made wave facility. Kelly Slater commended the waves in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing their competitive standing against the best waves globally. This initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing possibilities in the world of surfing.

Global Recognition and Championship Testimonials: Renowned Surfer

World champions, including Stephanie Gilmore, Caroline Marks, Ramzi Boukhiam, Filipe Toledo, and Gabriel Medina, tested the waves at Surf Abu Dhabi. They praised the facility’s world-class wave and highlighted Abu Dhabi’s role in becoming a gateway for surfing in the Middle East.

Jeff Fleeher, president of the Kelly Slater Wave Company, expressed that Abu Dhabi, as a global hub for tourism, sport, and business, is an ideal location to showcase their unmatched wave technology and surf experience. Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, chairman of the Department of Finance and chairman of Modon Properties, confirmed that Surf Abu Dhabi is ready to be unveiled soon.
