The Los Angeles Press Club announced the nominees for the 65th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards, highlighting media excellence across the region, with TheWrap taking eight nominations.
Winners will be named at an awards ceremony on June 25, 2023 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Sharon Waxman, founder and editor-in-chief of TheWrap, was named an individual for her ongoing work Wax Word Blog series.
Journalist Sharon Knolle received two nominations. It starts with her scrutiny of the “Sex and the City” sequel series and whether the show negatively portrays middle-aged women, titled “Is “And Just Like That”…ageist? Why Carrie and her friends look dated at 50.“
A second nod to see how women are represented in the current comedy scene:”Forget Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle — female cartoonists say stand-up comedy has “never been safe” for women.“

Journalist Andi Ortiz was nominated in the Filmed Entertainment Feature category for his oral history of the cult surrounding “Hocus Pocus” since Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” was released in 1993, entitled “How “Hocus Pocus” went from box office bomb to Disney’s Halloween darling.“
In the same category, Waxman’s “Golden Globes Miss 300 Voter Goal by 101 Votes, Fire Reformist Frank Rousseau for Making Up Story (Exclusive) was also nominated.
Brenda Gazzar for “5 years of the #MeToo movement: How the movement spread beyond Hollywood—for better or worse.“
Ada Guerin, Tatiana Leiva and Catie Laffoon Nominated in Cover Art Category for Story by TheWrap Magazine Amanda Seyfried.
Finally, the critic Robert Hoeffler Individual nominated for theater/performing arts category review.
