Tik Tok A new monetization spigot is being opened for creators of the popular short video app.
The Chinese-owned app launched Series, a new way for creators to sell their stories as premium content. With the Series feature (initially available only to select creators), users can publish collections of premium content post-paywall for viewers to purchase. Each individual series can contain up to 80 videos, each up to 20 minutes long, giving the TikTok community “a new, longer format to watch their favorite creators and content,” the company said. .

TikTok creators can choose a price for their series. Content can be purchased via a direct in-video link or via the creator’s profile page. The company noted that, like all content on TikTok, video series must adhere to its community guidelines standards.
According to TikTok, Series is currently available to some creators; in the coming months, the company will open applications for others to sign up. According to a TikTok representative, for a limited time, creators will receive 100% of their series’ revenue (net of platform and processing fees); it’s unclear what the revenue split might be in the long run.
Other TikTok initiatives aimed at compensating creators include the Creator Fund, which pays creators of “innovative content” on the platform; the TikTok Creator Marketplace for brands and creators to collaborate; and the recently announced Creative Initiative beta , currently an invite-only program that pays creators of “high-quality, original content” a share of ad revenue over 1 minute.
