Tokyo Olympics: Indian player Mirabai Chanu wins silver medal-News

[ad_1]

Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to better win the bronze medal of Kanan Maleswari

On Saturday, Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the 49kg class, thus ending India’s 21-year wait for Olympic weightlifting medals.

The 26-year-old athlete lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg + 115 kg) at the 2000 Sydney Olympics to better win the bronze medal of Kanan Maleswari. With this, she dispelled the ghost of the 2016 Olympics, where she failed to record a legal elevator.

Chinese player Hou Zhihui won the gold medal with 210 kg (94 kg + 116 kg), while Indonesia’s Aisha Kantica won the bronze medal with 194 kg (84 kg + 110 kg).

Considering her weakness in the racetrack, Chanu tried 84kg in her first snatch attempt. Manipuri took the time to lift the barbell cleanly.

She lifted 87 kg in her next attempt and increased her weight to 89 kg, which is 1 kg more than her personal best lift of 88 kg in the national championship last year.

However, her personal best was unable to perform. In the snatch competition with 87 kilograms, she only lags behind leader Zhihui, who set a new Olympic record with 94 kilograms.

Chinese weightlifters also have the world mark of this category (96 kg).

In the clean and jerk, Chanu, the world record holder, tried to lift 110 kg and 115 kg in the first two attempts.

However, she failed to lift 117 kg in the last attempt, but this was enough for her to win a medal and open an Indian account.

Manipuri, a short stature, collapsed after realizing that she had won a medal and hugged her coach.

She later danced to celebrate the historic podium.
