Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen hammered out the terms of their split the same day they filed for divorce.
The 45-year-old sports star and 42-year-old Gisele announced their split via a social media statement on Friday (10.28.22), with a legal expert now explaining how their settlement was handled so directly.
Jacqueline Newman, a divorce attorney at Berkman Bottger Newman and Schein LLP, explained: “They’ve entered into a settlement, which usually includes financial and custody issues. By the time they filed, they had custody, child support, alimony figured out.”
Still, Newman, who has no ties to either party, explained that a judge still needs to approve the settlement.
She told PEOPLE: “After a couple agrees on everything, the judge looks at the agreement and approves it.
“In some cases, the judge will reject the agreement, usually in the case of child support. But that’s rarely the case, and it’s usually in cases where the child support seems to be skewed. But that’s obviously not an issue. .”
Giselle – who has nine-year-old Vivian and 12-year-old Benjamin with the NFL star – recently admitted they had “separated”.
In a statement posted on social media, Giselle said: “The decision to end a marriage was never an easy one, but we’ve gone our separate ways, and while it’s certainly difficult going through something like this, I have for us Happy during that time. Together, I just wish Tom the best forever.”
Meanwhile, Tom – along with 15-year-old John and Bridget Moynahan – described their split as an amicable decision.
The sports star wrote on Instagram: “In the last few days, my wife and I have finalized our divorce after 13 years of marriage. We have made this decision amicably and thankful for the time we spent together. We are very happy Children who are fortunate to have beautiful and excellent children will continue to be at the center of our world in every way. As parents, we will continue to work together to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.”
