US President Joe Biden is set to arrive in New Delhi on Friday for the G20 summit, as confirmed by the White House. His three-day itinerary is as follows:
- Friday: After departing from the US, he will briefly stop over in Ramstein, Germany, before arriving in New Delhi. Biden is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day.
- Saturday: Biden will participate in an official arrival and handshake with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 1: “One Earth.” Later in the day, he will join the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 2: “One Family” and participate in a Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment event. The day will conclude with a dinner and cultural program with other G20 Leaders.
- Sunday: The US President will visit the Raj Ghat Memorial alongside other G20 Leaders before departing from New Delhi for Hanoi, Vietnam.
In Hanoi, Biden will be welcomed by General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng of the Communist Party of Vietnam, followed by a meeting and remarks. He will also hold a press conference.
The discussions between President Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 summit will focus on various agenda items, including economic cooperation, multilateral investment opportunities, and reforming multilateral development banks.
While the summit addresses global issues, there is limited expectation that discussions will touch upon climate and the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
India has held the G20 presidency since December 1 of the previous year, organizing approximately 200 meetings in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will culminate the year-long G20 processes and meetings among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. The summit will conclude with the adoption of a G20 Leaders’ Declaration outlining the leaders’ commitment to the discussed priorities and agreements reached during the various ministerial and working group meetings.
